Today: 90-Year-Anniversary of the Dedication of St Mary's, Warrington
August 30, 2017
UP-DATE: Correction to the below: although St Mary's, Warrington opened on 30th August 1877, it was not until 30th August 1927 that the church enjoyed the ceremony of dedication. So today is the 90th anniversary of the dedication--with the 12 candles around her walls lit to remember she is "built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the cornerstone" (Eph 2:20).
Thank you to the kind lady who brought in a copy of the 1994 Catholic Directory with this entry:
Wednesday 30th August will be a First Class Feast at St Mary's, Warrington, marking the 140th anniversary of the dedication of the church in 1877. (We believe this occurred on 30th August, 1877, but would be glad to hear from anyone who has further information.)
Accordingly there is a correction to be made to this week's bulletin. On Wednesday the Mass will be said for the Dedication of a Church, as on the weekly translation sheet below, rather than for St Rose of Lima, as indicated incorrectly on the bulletin. Apologies for the late notice.
