Preview of Ordination Booklet: Saints, Form, Obedience
June 14, 2017
For a preview of the texts and ceremonials of the ordination rite, click on the image above (which links to a pdf of the booklet to be used at Saturday's ordinations). Below are some excerpts of:
- the beginning of the Litany of the Saints (strikingly memorable as the candidates prostrate themselves on the ground while everyone present calls on the help of the whole of Heaven);
- the form of the Sacrament of Holy Orders--it is by the appointed minister expressing the meaning of these words that the men he has laid hands on become priests;
- and the Iam non dicam, after which the Archbishop gives the new priests faculties to hear Confessions. God gave them the power to absolve sins; the Ordinary gives them the jurisdiction. Such is God's trust of men.
Well, the whole booklet is over 50 pages long (thank you Isaac!). It is full of ancient and vital treasure. You are welcome to download it as material for meditation, and / or we hope to come here Saturday and read it while it is all happening.
