While St Mary's Cathedral in Kengtung was packed for midnight Mass tonight, two sisters kept the prayer vigil for Fr Clement Hla Shwe who passed away that morning. Fr Clement was well respected for his energetic labours in the missions here.
A local from Loimwe, Fr Clement was remembered at the memento for the dead just a few hours after he died at Fr Mawdsley's Mass in Loimwe. Please say a prayer too.
At the Mass in Kengtung to welcome the New Year, there were hundreds of youngsters. Veils, mantillas, shawls and scarves were the happy norm for ladies and girls. All who received Holy Communion did so kneeling and on the tongue, as is perfectly normal in Upper Burma. Although other important traditions have slipped, these are thriving.
