Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) presentation after 11am Mass on Sunday 23rd. ACN Representative Terry Gorman will give a presentation on the charity's work: ACN is a Catholic charity providing vital help worldwide to Christians who are persecuted, oppressed or in pastoral need. At present there is particular focus on the Middle East, Pakistan and Nigeria, but without ignoring so many other countries where religious freedom is not respected. In other countries where the Church is growing against all the odds – particularly in the explosive growth of the Faith behind the old Iron Curtain – the pastoral needs of the faithful are huge as they often do not have the material resources to support their priests, build and maintain their churches and chapels, and educate their children in the Faith.
In 2015 ACN supported over 6,000 projects in 146 countries. Just as examples, this included 1,674 building projects, sponsoring 11,075 seminarians, and providing Mass stipends to priests in areas where their congregations are too poor to be able to support them – to the extent that every 22 seconds Mass is said somewhere in the world for the intentions of ACN benefactors. There will be on sale: Christian Christmas Cards, Advent Calendars, Children`s books and other gifts – with proceeds going to help the work of ACN.
