Yesterday's Family Catechism Day was rather crowded, demonstrating we need a community hall here at St Mary's. After an 'indoor picnic', the little ones made Rosary bracelets which were then blessed by a priest.
Meanwhile the older children were intrigued by Seminarian Thomas' account of how J.R.R. Tolkein wove vital Catholic doctrines as profound themes into his Lord of the Rings. This exploration will be taken further at the next two Family Catechism Days (17 Nov and 19 Dec)--all families welcome!
Parents joined Fr Mawdsley to study what the Catechism of the Catholic Church says about Sacred Scripture. The notes are below. If we do not hear or read the Scriptures every week, every day, how can we call ourselves Christian?
CCC 133 The Church “forcefully and specifically exhorts all the Christian faithful... to learn the surpassing knowledge of Jesus Christ, by frequent reading of the divine Scriptures. Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ."
