Joint PARISH & COMMUNITY EXCURSION to St Winefride’s Well in HOLYWELL on Saturday 13th August. If you wish to have a place on the coach, please write your name on the sheet at the back of church. Coach departs 9:20am from St Oswald’s, then at 9:30am from St Benedict’s, then at 9:40am from St Mary’s; returning at approximately 4:30pm. Fr Dave Heywood, Fr James Mawdsley, FSSP and parishioners from all three churches are invited to attend. Cost £5 per person. Please bring a packed lunch.
TODAY: Music Summer Fête. Friends of St Mary's music will be holding a summer fête in St Mary’s Priory gardens, Sunday 24th July, 2-5pm. All welcome. It is not too late to help run a stall, or to donate a prize. Please see Michael Wynne (email firstname.lastname@example.org).
Of your charity, please pray for repose of the soul of Anne Williams (née Postlethwaite), who has died. Anne’s funeral will be held at St Oswald’s at 10:15am on Tuesday 26th July. May she rest in peace.
Financial Stewarship Campaign Letter: Look out for Chris Gehrke’s letter available at the back of church. Please take one and read about the three point plan for raising our head above the monetary waterline. We do not want to sink! It will require a great team effort, a community effort, for us to establish a financially sustainable future for St Mary’s. Even if one has little money to give, one can give prayers, confident that God will hear us.
Thank you to those who attended and helped organise the Family Picnic & Catechism on 21st July. All families are welcome to attend the next meeting which runs after Holy Mass on Thursday 18th August from 1pm through the afternoon. Bring a picnic lunch. The theme for August’s catechism is ‘The Revelation of God’. This topic is summarised in §68-73 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church (available online)—so feel free to read up in advance and come armed with questions! See our blog for recommended reading following the last catechism.
Welcome to Fr Daniel Horgan, SSC, on supply here at the Shrine: Welcome back to Fr Horgan, a Columban missionary priest who is returning to St Mary’s Shrine to supply for us from Thursday 28th through to Sunday 31st July. Holy Mass and Confessions will be at the usual times. We are most grateful to Fr Horgan for his generous availability, as this helps make it possible for Fr de Malleray to attend World Youth Day in Poland (as he is chaplain to the Juventutem group travelling there); and for Fr Mawdsley to serve as chaplain for Summer Camp St Peter (the third annual youth camp run by the FSSP in England). Fr de Malleray returns to St Mary’s on August 1st and Fr Mawdsley on August 4th. Please pray for spiritual fruit from these two youth apostolates.
Welcome and thanks to visiting FSSP members: Welcome to Deacon Alex Stewart from the Wirral, visiting this weekend and due to spend much more time with us in August. God willing Deacon Alex will be ordained a priest next year. And a big thank you to seminarian Matthew Palmer for his sterling work at our Shrine as he completes today a week of summer apostolate here. On Friday Matthew visited St Oswald’s church and kissed the font, as it is the first time he has been there since being baptised in St Oswald’s in 1989. Please pray for these young men on their way to the Sacred Priesthood, and pray for many more to hear the call and answer it, please God!
More Baronius missals available: If you have booked for one, or simply wish to purchase one for you or for some friends, please bring £34.00 in cash or by cheque made payable to ‘FSSP’.
