Prayer intention: Priestly Ordination of Rev James Mawdsley, FSSP
to the Sacred Priesthood on 2nd July in Bavaria.
Warrington Walking Day takes place this Friday 1st July. As usual we will assemble at the church from 9am onwards ready for a short blessing and 9.30 departure. Please remember there will be local road closures around the town that morning. For those new to the walk, the procession route and further information is displayed in the narthex. It is a long-standing tradition in the town and an opportunity to bear Christian witness through the streets of Warrington alongside our ecumenical neighbours. Banner carriers and stewards are still needed, without them our participation will be compromised; the banner is on display against the north transept wall and there is a sheet to sign up at the back of church if you can help. See Tim or Jane Wright for further details.
WHAT WILL YOU BRING on 10th JULY: food, chairs, gazebo, drinks?
A celebratory picnic is planned to follow the First Solemn Mass of Fr James Mawdsley FSSP, here on Sunday 10th July, 11am. This will be a joyous occasion which we would like to mark with a fitting celebration; we are hoping to have a picnic buffet for all attending in the garden afterwards – similar to the one for Fr Jolley this time last year. Offers of picnic food for sharing are urgently required to help planning for the event (we may need to buy some in but can keep costs down if we have can provide some ourselves).
Any offers of a gazebo for the day would also be welcome.
Details and sign-up sheets are available in the narthex if you can help or speak to Jane in the Shrine office.
Farewell to our seminarian Marcus Williams, FSSP: today, Sunday 26th June after Mass. Marcus will serve at our boarding school in Normandy from September. We will all wish to thank him for his tremendous input since our arrival last November, and assure him of our continued prayers.
Solemnity of Sts Peter & Paul on 29th June, a very important feast and a holiday of obligation:
This means that attendance at Holy Mass that day is mandatory for Catholics. To facilitate, we will have TWO Holy Masses: 12:10pm & 7:30pm.
Members of the Confraternity of St Peter can gain a plenary indulgence that day on the usual conditions.
It also is the Patronal Feast of the Priestly Fraternity of St Peter, to whom the pastoral care of St Mary’s Shrine was entrusted by Archbishop McMahon. Let us pray for abundant apostolic fruit at the Shrine; for the FSSP worldwide; and for the ministry of His Holiness Pope Francis, Successor of Peter.
Peter’s Pence Retiring Collection: for the Holy Father’s charitable works
Welcome to Fr Daniel Horgan, a Columban Father, who will cover for Fr de Malleray from 1st to 3rd July.
The month of July is dedicated to the Most Precious Blood of Jesus: Come and reflect on this essential aspect of our faith at Holy Mass on the feast of the Most Precious Blood, 1st July, 12:10pm.
Refugees’ Cross: families fleeing persecution in Eritrea and Somalia died when their boat capsized. Fr Dave will bring this Sunday afternoon (until Tuesday) a small cross made with wood from their boat. It will be displayed in the Martyrs’ Chapel. Let us pray for them and those in similar distress.
TWO NEW PRIESTS from and in the Liverpool Archdiocese:
Priestly Ordination of Rev Mr James Mawdsley, FSSP to the Sacred Priesthood on Saturday 2nd July in Bavaria by His Grace Archbishop Guido Pozzo, Secretary of the Pontifical Ecclesia Dei Commission. Several members of St Mary’s Shrine will attend, with Fr de Malleray. Please pray on that day for Fr Mawdsley and his fellow ordinands.
Please pray also for Rev Mr Dominic Risley who will be ordained to the Sacred Priesthood on Saturday 9th July by Archbishop Malcolm McMahon. The ordination will take place at St. Edward’s Church in Wigan at 11am. Frs de Malleray and Mawdsley will attend.
Please ask God for priests: take a look at a Confraternity flyer at the back of the church: we need your daily decade!
Latin discovery experience: A dozen schoolchildren from St Edmund Arrowsmith school in Wigan (Ashton-in-Makerfield) came to discover the EF Mass here, at 12:10pm last Tuesday, brought by their RE teacher Maria Johnson. The children were recollected and made use of the CTS booklets to follow the Mass. They met after Mass in the Narthex with Fr de Malleray to ask questions.
Coast to Coast for MARY’S MEALS & PRO-LIFE: On the 25th June, young adult David Kahn from St Mary’s Shrine begun his walk across the country from St Bee’s Head to Robin Hood’s Bay in aid of Mary’s Meals and of pro-life actions at St Mary’s. Sponsor forms are available at the back of church, along with information about the charity. On Sunday 17th July, a short video on the work of Mary’s Meals will be shown in the music room, with sandwiches available. You are invited to bring items for school backpacks (as indicated on the lists at the back of church) for collection on Sunday 24th July. Further information contact Jane Wright at St Mary’s office or Alison Kahn on 01925 72759.
